In Memoriam
Grey Lions
One can never be
too old, too blind, too deaf…just ask any referee,
to play rugby or at least put on the boots, sling on your
shorts and then pull on
the Black Lions Jersey. No other feeling like it. If you still have a tingle
in your loins, see your doc, but if your boots still fit then you can join the
lads anytime. Sometimes the call goes out to help field the third or fourth side
match and then you really get the glory. Fundraising and financial support will
always be there but the support on the pitch is needed just as well. Any questions,
concerns, comments or if you want to be added to the Grey Lions’ mailing
list, sąthrow it back to Ray Karenas at ray@raykarenas.com.
He won’t
knock it on like the old days.
The mailing list will put you in touch with other Grey Lions, will get you the
latest info on the next home Rugby Super League match where you will be a part
of the 16th man and occasionally, an off pitch activity which you may need a
hall pass for. The Grey Lions – We Still May Have It but Nobody Wants It!
Teams of the Decades
In 2000, we did an online survey to try and find the All-time
Greatest Chicago Lions team. This did not work because (1) it was an Internet-based
survey and therefore would ignore older players who were just as good as current
players, (2) there have been too many good players to choose the best, and (3) it
was ignoring people who contributed to the club over a longer period of time.
Therefore, we have created certificates that honored players in general, people
who made significant contributions to the Chicago Lions as members, not just players.
They are in PDF format which means you need to download the free
Acrobat Reader plug-in to view and print them.
