Chicago Lions Rugby Announces Addition of Jake Rafferty as Sports Data Scientist
Chicago Lions Director of Rugby Matthew Wagner has announced the addition of Jake Rafferty to our high-performance team in the role of Sports Data Scientist (SDS).
Jake joins the club with a strong background in data analysis and sports performance, bringing a sharp analytical edge to our training and programming processes. In this new role, Jake will play a critical part in interpreting performance data, utilizing GPS tracking tools to inform and enhance player development, team performance, and overall athlete welfare.
As our SDS, Jake will work closely with our strength & conditioning staff, coaching teams, and the Director of Rugby to ensure training sessions are not only effective but also tailored to achieve specific work rate thresholds that align with match demands. By aligning training loads with key performance metrics, Jake's insights will help the club maintain and improve physical capacity while also protecting against overtraining.
In addition to performance enhancement, Jake will be instrumental in supporting our return to play protocols. Collaborating with our athletic training staff, he’ll help guide injured players safely back to competition by monitoring physical loads and ensuring a gradual, data-informed progression.
Jake also currently works in the same role for the MLR's Chicago Hounds.
Please join us in welcoming Jake to the Chicago Lions family. His expertise marks an exciting step forward in our commitment to elite performance, innovation, and player welfare.
Welcome to the Lions, Jake!
